It took half a day to find and install VMware Tools on my guest os running Cent OS 6.3. \u00a0I though a summary of this would help someone in achieving this faster. \u00a0So here it goes.<\/p>\n

My Setup:<\/p>\n

Host: VMware ESXi Server 5.0
\nGuest: Cent OS 6.3 (64 bit)
\nArch: x86_64<\/p>\n

\u00a0Install VMware Tools:<\/p>\n

1. Download and install the keys:<\/p>\n

wget http:\/\/packages.vmware.com\/tools\/keys\/VMWARE-PACKAGING-GPG-DSA-KEY.pub
\nwget http:\/\/packages.vmware.com\/tools\/keys\/VMWARE-PACKAGING-GPG-RSA-KEY.pub<\/p>\n

rpm –import VMWARE-PACKAGING-GPG-DSA-KEY.pub
\nrpm –import VMWARE-PACKAGING-GPG-RSA-KEY.pub<\/p>\n

2. Create a file vmware-tools.repo\u00a0under path \/etc\/yum.repos.d\/with the below content –<\/p>\n

\u00a0[vmware-tools]
\nname=VMware Tools
\nbaseurl=http:\/\/packages.vmware.com\/tools\/esx\/5.0\/rhel6\/x86_64
\nenabled=1
\ngpgcheck=1<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n

3. Install the VMware Tools with below command<\/p>\n

yum install vmware-tools-esx-kmods vmware-tools-esx
\nNote: verify that your kernel name ends with x86_64. \u00a0If its different than you need to edit the line above to install the suitable package.<\/p>\n

4. Reboot and verify your installation.<\/p>\n
